Standish Globe Runners is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of all its members, ensuring a positive and enjoyable experience for all. The club believes that it is important that members, run leaders and committee members associated with the club should, at all times, show respect and understanding for the safety and welfare of others. Therefore, members are encouraged to be open at all times and to share any concerns or complaints that they may have about any aspect of the club with the welfare officer as detailed in the welfare policy. and welfare of others.
As a responsible member of Standish Globe Runners, I will maintain the integrity of the club by:
1. taking responsibility to ensure I am up to date with the code of conduct, understand and adhere to it.
2. respecting the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of age, gender, ability, race, cultural background, religious beliefs, or sexual identity.
3. being a positive role model, treating other members with the same level of respect I would expect to be shown to myself.
4. avoiding swearing and abusive language whilst at club runs/events/functions.
5. in no way undermining, putting down, belittling, or bullying other members regardless of ability.
6. challenging and/or reporting inappropriate behaviour and language by others.
7. encouraging everyone to enjoy running and understand that people have different motivations for taking part.
8. understanding that the club may use photos and video footage to positively promote activities on social media unless I have highlighted on my new start form that I do not want my image to be used. Any concerns please contact Jan or Stephen.
9. trying to attend at least once a fortnight unless injured/work/holidays. Any concerns, speak to one of the run leaders or contact the welfare officer in confidence. If we do not hear from you for 2 months, you may be removed from the club.
10. recognising the valuable contribution made by run leaders and committee members who are all volunteers.
When attending a run meeting, I will:
1. advise of any injury, illness or long-term medical condition that may affect your running. I may be asked to complete a new health declaration.
2. register before a run at the agreed time.
3. be honest about my ability. If the group that you are in is too fast or too slow then consider changing groups at the next session. Take note of any recommendations given to you by run leaders about which group may be better suited to you.
4. wear suitable clothing/footwear for running and not endorse any other running club by way of clothing. This includes the compulsory wearing of high visibility clothing and running lights when running in the dark.
5. carry my In Case of Emergency (ICE) card as this has emergency contact details. If you lose it just ask for a replacement.
6. observe any instructions given by a run leader before and during a run. If I decide to ignore any advice or instructions I understand I do so at my own risk and will not hold Standish Globe Runners or its run leaders liable in any way.
7. report any injuries or accidents to a run leader at once.
8. look after the other runners within the training group. If someone is struggling, make sure that they are not left on their own or inform your run leader
9. not run too far in front of a group and always muster back when requested to by the run leader.
10. respect pedestrians and other path/road users, giving way to others when necessary.
11. warn other runners around me of impending hazards, pedestrians, cyclists, dustbins, low hanging branches etc.
12. if I need to leave the session before the finish, I will inform the run leader first.
I understand that if I do not follow the code, action can be taken by the club, and I may be:
• asked to apologise for my behaviour
• issued with a verbal warning from the management committee
• suspended from attending club runs/events/functions
• suspended from the club
• required to leave the club
In the event of a member being suspended or expelled from the club:
• the management committee may suspend any member for up to 3 months or expel them from the club having heard the complaint against the member.
• the affected member has the right to appeal against the decision of the management committee for temporary or permanent suspension from the club. All appeals should be given in writing to the club secretary within 14 days giving an explanation of the circumstances (just saying you wish to appeal is insufficient)
• appeals against such a decision will be heard and adjudicated by the management committee
• the member will remain suspended pending the outcome of the appeal
If the appeal is successful, any suspension will be lifted with immediate effect
If the appeal is rejected, the member will be notified in writing by the club secretary and if:
• suspended, serve out the remaining time before having it lifted
• expelled, will have their membership cancelled with immediate effect
